The vineyard is in the cool, southwesterly Green Valley, and the wine shows brilliant acidity and tangy green apple flavors, enriched with spicy, smoky new oak. It’s a forward, rather pushy Chardonnay, insistent in its New World assertiveness, but an enormously attractive one that calls for equally big foods, like lobster, or scallops in a coconut-curry sauce." (10/1/2008) The Medina Vineyard is located in Sonoma's Green Valley sub-appellation, known for its gentle rolling hills and ample sunshine. Medina is comprised of sandy Goldridge loam soils and is kept cool by influences from the nearby Pacific. The 2006 vintage of this wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation, though it was aged in a combination of new and once-used French oak barrels, for an almost Meursault-like experience. Floral notes wrap themselves around citrus fruit and are grounded by a nice mineral vein. Glycerine-like on the palate, the wine is framed by sweet, toasty oak and a beautiful acidic lift.
