Deeply rooted in thin, well-draining soils, Three Palms Vineyard yields small-berried Merlot clusters with exceptional color and flavor concentration. The soils are covered with volcanic stones washed down over centuries from Dutch Henry Canyon. Here, the stressed vines produce shy, intensely-flavored crops that are more typical of mountain vineyard sites, though this is on the valley floor, relates Mike. The 74.5-acre vineyard is planted primarily to Merlot, but with substantial acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. This allows us to blend other varietals for complexity, yet retain a single vineyard designation for our Three Palms Vineyard Merlot.
